My First Three Months
Today marks exactly three months I was ordained a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Bridgetown on June 1st, 2019. Since then, I have been able to celebrate over Seventy-Eight Masses, witnessed the wedding of my sister, and provided pastoral care for some in the diocese.
While all of these pastoral opportunities have impacted me during my short time as a priest; the most life-changing aspect of priesthood thus far has been the time spent in the various parishes. Being in the “mess” as Pope Francis puts it, is not the same as being in the seminary, I am actually living with and journeying with the people of God.
As a priest, I will never experience being a physical father, but my time here in the diocese has given me a sense of spiritual fatherhood. My job as a priest is to accompany those in need, to listen to them and pray for and with them. God wants us all to flourish, He wants us, this small diocese in Barbados to experience real joy and real life. I ask that you support each other, especially our youth and young adults.
As I continue to journey in my priestly life I would like to thank each and every one of you, who have prayed for me, given me gifts and encouraged me over the last three months and beyond.
