Please note that we celebrate All Saints on Sunday and pray for the repose of the souls of our departed sisters and brothers on Monday, All Souls Day. We invite those of you who come to church on Sunday to bring the names of those who died and place them in the Prayer Box so that they can be remembered at the Mass on Sunday and for the month of November.

“... GIVE BACK ... TO GOD WHAT BELONGS TO GOD.”

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

“Very well, give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar – and to God what belongs to God.”

This is a simple and yet very profound text. The whole Gospel passage gives us an insight as to how Jesus dealt with his opponents and tells us at the same time how we could address those who are set on confronting us through malice. Notice he sternly lets them know in no uncertain terms that he was aware of their cunning. But he addresses their question in such a way that he puts the ball back in their own court. We need to pray for the grace to respond to our aggressors in a likewise manner.

Next, he did answer their question with a deep, obvious and profound response. “Very well then, give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar.” And what belongs to Caesar? His coinage. And what is God’s? Everything belongs to God. Even Caesar belongs to God. So God is not robbed if Caesar’s taxes are paid. Let us therefore, give the Caesars in our lives what belongs to them and to God what belongs to Him.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Sunday 18th October is Mission Sunday. The theme is “Here I am, send me.” Pope Francis is asking us to renew our baptismal commitment on that day and to pray for all missionaries. Please be extra generous with your collection. It will go towards the missionary work of the Church.

Our Parish Pastoral Council held a virtual meeting on Wednesday and plans were made for the remainder of the year.

Sunday 18th October will be Youth Mass. In fact every third Sunday will be Youth/Children’s Mass.

The Feast of Christ the King will be celebrated with a Diocesan Mass at the Cathedral on Saturday evening 6:00pm. Our parishes will then celebrate on Sunday 22nd. The feast marks the end of the liturgical year. We are asking for photos of events and activities from Advent Sunday 2019 to 22nd. November 2020. The Communications Team will then be asked to put together a brief report for the year. More info to come.

We need the names of all our students indicating their school and, if overseas, their contacts. Please send them to Rev. Stephen ([email protected]). We will continue to pray for our students.

We continue to feel the absence of our children and some regular parishioners. While we recognize that some people are trying to keep safe, we again assure everyone that we do strive to have the necessary protocols in place so that all feel safe when they attend Mass in Church. Our Lord Jesus calls to his table of the Word and Sacrament so He can feed us with Himself.

Remember Rosary Month and try to pray at least a decade of the Rosary a week, if not each day.

“...INVITE EVERYONE...”

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

“...Invite everyone you can find...” The first reading and the Gospel today presents the kingdom of heaven as an invitation to a great banquet. They tell us that the kingdom of God is being offered to us. They tell us that our God has prepared a banquet that satisfies our inner hunger.

The Gospel tells us that God invites us to be His guests. So we are invited to be partakers of what He has prepared for us. What is necessary is that we accept His invitation and that we clothe ourselves in His love. Note that the ‘wedding garment’ is love. Note too, that the man was thrown out because he bluntly refused to respond to the king’s question. So it wasn’t because he did not have a wedding garment, but because of his refusal to respond and ask for one.

So, we are the ‘everyone’ who are invited to the kingdom. Let us pray that we may have the wedding garment of love and if not, ask for that love

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

GOOD NEWS! On Sunday 4th October, three of our young people were confirmed at St. Patrick’s Cathedral along with nineteen others from St. Patrick’s. Our three are: Keanna Howell, Riquelme Crichlow and Ryle Crichlow. (see photo at right-top) I was given what is called faculties to confer the sacrament. The celebration was both solemn and lively. The choir was coordinated by our own Shireifa Joseph.

Also, on Sunday 4th October, we hosted the president of the Legion of Mary Curia. The Legion will be one hundred years in existence in 2021. Ms. Patricia Bourne and her colleague Ms. Jacinta Alexander attended Mass with us and spoke to us of the centenary celebration. They presented us with a gift of two potted desert roses in lieu of the celebrations. (see photo at right-bottom)

The week of 4th to 10th of October was observed in our diocese as Catechists’ Week. Let’s thank all of them together with our Catholic teachers for their efforts to impart the faith and educate our students.

On Wednesday 7th October was the actual feast day of our patron, Our Lady of the Rosary, which we celebrated at the 9:00am Mass, on the same Sunday 4th October, as the Confirmation. A reminder to pray the rosary at least once a week during this month of the Rosary.

In addition to being the Month of the Rosary, October is also Mission Month. Please remember that we have been baptized and sent. The word mission means sent. So let’s echo the reply of Isaiah when, in chapter 6:8 of Isaiah he told God, “Here am I, send me.” As missionaries the Lord asks the same question, Whom shall I send, who will go, for us...? Let’s respond with the words of the theme for this Mission Month, “here am I, send me.”

We are planning to restart our Sunday School with Sister Mercy. Parents and guardians please bring your children to church so that they can participate.

OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

As we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, let’s first thank God for choosing Mary to be the Mother of Our Savior. Let’s thank Mary for saying “yes” to God to be the Mother of the Savior. And let us thank her for accepting all of us as her children. When, at the foot of her Son’s deathbed, he gave John the Beloved disciple to be her son, she accepted him. And finally let’s thank her for the gift of the Rosary .

Sisters and Brothers thanks for saying “yes” to God’s call to be witnesses in Rosary Parish. On this very Sunday as we honor Our Lady of the Rosary, we invite you to show your gratitude for Mary our Mother, the Rosary and our Parish Church, by committing to promoting and praying the Rosary regularly.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Three of our young people were presented to the Congregation as candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation. They are: Riquelme Crichlow, Ryle Crichlow and Keana Howell. They will be confirmed on Sunday 4th October at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 6:00pm. Please pray for them.

Sunday 27th September, being the last Sunday in Bible Month., we had a display of T-Shirts that exhibited Bible verses. It was a very special moment for us all. Thanks and blessings to the Bible Team and all who displayed their T-Shirts.

This being the month of October we are into Mission Month. As members of the Catholic Family, remember that we are Baptized and Sent “to lead all people into unity, encounter and participation in Christ.”  (From our synod  2014) There is a special collection for the missions this weekend.

This Sunday 4th October, we celebrate our Patronal Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. We begin at 8:00am with the choir singing the Glorious Mystery of the Caribbean Rosary followed by Mass. I hope and pray that Parishioners will come out and join in the celebration. You can find links to the Caribbean Rosary below.

We are also observing Catechists Week, beginning this Sunday 4th October . Let us thank God for our Catechists as the hand on the faith.

Finally, Sunday 4th October is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. It also marks the end of the Season of Creation. Please remember we are stewards of creation and keep nurturing those potted plants and gardens.
