Dear Brothers and Sisters,
“...Jesus told his disciple about the need to pray continually and never lose heart...”
At our baptism, we became disciples of Jesus. At our confirmation, we personally said “yes” to being baptized and sent – sent to proclaim the Good News that God loved the world so much that he sent his Son, etc.
Yes, we are all disciples, followers of Jesus. We follow him by striving to love as he loves and by deepening our relationship every day with God our Father. How do we do that? Constant prayer. Persistent prayer. In short, daily prayer.
Remember, all relationships call for conversation. Prayer is conversation with God who took the initiative to have a relationship with every single one of us. Prayer then, is absolutely necessary for all disciples. Not just periodic prayer but continual prayer.
Prayer requires faith. That is why in the Gospel for today, after giving the parable of the need to pray continually and never lose heart, Jesus asked “When the Son of Man comes, will he find any faith on earth?”
I pray and hope that the answer is “yes” because we are a people who pray continually.
