Dear Brothers and Sisters,
‘The mother of Jesus said to the servants, “Do whatever he (Jesus) tells you.”’
This text in the Gospel of John for the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, tells us the kind of mother the mother of Jesus is. It also gives us an insight into an aspect of motherhood. In fact, while I accept that the Gospel is giving us an insight as to who Jesus is, I also feel that the same passage is about his mother too.
Notice how the chapter begins: “There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee and the mother of Jesus was there. And Jesus and his disciples were invited.” Notice that it was she (the mother) who found out that “...they have no wine. “After bringing the matter to Jesus and being told that to manifest his glory was premature, she tells the servants “DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU” Jesus tells them to fill six twenty- gallons a piece jars with water and take some to the guests. The servants obeyed and served Water that was turned into wine. All because the mother of Jesus told them to “Do whatever he (Jesus) tells you.” The servants obeyed her and a miracle occurred.
Today let’s hear the mother of Jesus telling us “Do whatever he tells you” and do it.
May God bless you.
