Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Today, Fourth Sunday of Easter is known as Good Shepherd Sunday. Why? Jesus is presented as the Good Shepherd in the Gospels for the 3-year cycle. In the Gospel for this year, Jesus tells us that to his sheep who hear and listen to his voice, he gives us life and that we would never be lost. This is not an empty statement. It’s profound in that we have eternal life and will never be lost because we listen to his voice. Easter assures us of that.
Yes, our Shepherd, our Good Shepherd gives us life to the full. With that full life, we will never be lost. However, for us to have that life and to live that life with the confidence that we will never be lost, we have to listen to the Good Shepherd and follow him.
We thank Jesus for giving us eternal life and for assuring us that we will never be lost.
