“THEY TOO WILL LISTEN TO MY VOICE.”
Today is called Good Shepherd Sunday. It is also Vocations Sunday when the Church invites us to pray that those whom God is calling to live their relationship with Him in a specific way will say yes and those who have said yes already will continue to do so.
The Gospel today has Jesus telling us that He is the Good Shepherd who knows his sheep and whose sheep know Him. He goes further and says that “There are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, these I must lead as well.” Yes, thank God, we listen to the voice of Jesus because we know Him. But we are not to stop there. We are to hear Him telling us that He has other sheep that do not belong. These He also has to reach. How? Through the sheep who hear His voice and listen to Him. Yes, He calls us and then in and through our Baptism, sends us to let those other sheep know that the Good Shepherd is calling them as well. Calling them to what? To a relationship that proclaims the Joy of the Gospel.
It is in that light that the Church invites us to pray earnestly and regularly if not daily for more yesses to the call (Vocation) to live and spread the Good News of the kingdom. Please pray, thanking God for those who have said yes to God’s call to be Priests, Religious Sisters and Brothers and Lay Consecrated. Let us pray for families from whom these come and for those whom God is calling at this time.
Lord hear us.
