“Give them something to eat yourselves.”
Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Today as we celebrate and venerate the Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ, the church is inviting us to treasure with reverence and be grateful for the tremendous gift of his Son’s Body and Blood. This is something that is given to us to strengthen us and to satisfy our hunger for truth and love. We are therefore privileged to be partakers of this wonderful sacrament.
What is important to notice today is that not just members of the church but especially people who do not know Jesus, are hungry for truth and, above all, love. These we are to be aware of and in our prayer, pray about that hunger. As we do, Jesus will tell us what he told the disciples, “Give them (i.e. the hungry people) something to eat yourselves…” We don’t have much; in fact, all we really have are the fruit of the earth and work of human hands. Let’s give that to Jesus who will transform it and give it to us so that the people can eat as much as they want.
A blessed Corpus Christi.
