Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Today we commemorate the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Catholic Church teaches and we believe that God did not allow the body of Mary to decay but received her body and soul into heaven when she died.
Because of her obedience to God, she was asked to give flesh to the Saviour of the world. The verse quoted above comes from Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. She said to Mary “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.” Those words assure us that Mary is now reigning in heaven with her Son Jesus.
Let us thank God for choosing Mary to mother His Son; let us thank His Son for his mother to us to be our mother too; and let us thank her for saying yes to mothering Jesus and us as well.
Let us celebrate her Assumption into heaven.
